BMW & Art
Throughout the world, BMW has long been associated with art due to its legendary BMW Art Car collection, which was created by such world stars as Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella and Cesar Manrique. Since in 1975, French racing driver and art connoisseur Herve Poulin offered to paint a car to his friend artist Alexander Calder. Well known artists from all over the world have created 17 unique art cars based on BMW cars. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the concern, the 18th and 19th art cars were presented to the public, the design was developed by the Chinese artist Cao Fei and the famous American conceptualist John Baldessari.
In addition, BMW Group supports such iconic art events as Art Basel in Basel, Miami and Hong Kong, Frieze Art Fair and Frieze Masters London, Frieze New York, Paris Photo, Paris Photo Los Angeles and TEFAF Maastricht. The German concern also links cooperation in the field of urbanism with the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in New York and long-term projects with the Tate Modern Gallery in London and the National Gallery in Berlin.
Therefore, for BMW Russia, the partnership with the Garage Museum of contemporary art is a logical continuation of the concern's actions to support young talents and the development of the contemporary art communication platform.
For 2 years of cooperation, a large number of joint projects have been made, but the most important, from my point of view, I consider the grant "Art and Technology", which gives artists the opportunity to realize their ambitions and reach the international level.
Format: exposition, grant, closed screenings.
